THE BIBLE IN CHINA: ROBERT MORRISON 200 YEARS ON

The Bible in China: Robert Morrison 200 Years On

 

 Robert Morrison, 1782-1834

 With the Very Revd Dr C.D. Hancock, Director of the Centre for the Study of Christianity in China

 Monday 12th November, 6pm

 Dr Hancock will be giving a talk about Robert Morrison (1782-1834) DD, FRS. Morrison, who was born in Newcastle, was the first Protestant missionary to China and pioneer of British sinology. Morrison was the first to translate the Bible into Chinese and produced a multi-volume Chinese-English dictionary - copies of his dictionary and grammar were donated to the Lit & Phil by Morrison, and these books will be on display in the library.
