Guidelines for projectionist
Thank you for serving as a projectionist!
It is an unnoticed but very important job. Don’t fall into the trap of
thinking that you’re just a “clicking machine”, it
is much more than that, and what you does make a difference. Below are some
guidelines for you.
1) Preparing a laptop
As projectionist you have the
duty to make sure that there is at least one laptop available for the
meeting. Where possible, ask somebody else to prepare a second laptop as a
spare in case of any technical problems.
2) Make sure that your laptop
works
Make sure that your laptop has
the necessary programs to run what is needed in that night’s program, e.g.
PowerPoint, DVD player etc. Find out what you need in advance with the
persons in charge for that night. If your laptop has an auto virus scan that
starts during the meeting time, turn it off. Likewise for screen savers.
3) Bring the laptop
Bring the laptop to CF at least
20min before the meeting starts so there is sufficient time to set up. Help
the PA team to set up the laptop where possible.
3) Ask for the files before the
meeting
Before the meeting starts,
ask the worship leader for the PowerPoint, ask for the DVD and the PowerPoint
for the talk. Load them so they’re ready to go. Understand the run down that
night so you know what is coming next. Test run all
the DVD, PowerPoint etc. with the PA before the meeting to be sure that they
work.
4) During the meeting
Watch out for the worship
leaders. Don’t panic if you make a mistake, you’ll find it! Where possible
ask the worship leader for a PowerPoint slide print out so you can follow
more easily. Note that if you know the page number you can jump straight to
it, which is less confusing for people! (e.g. to go to page one click 1 then enter)
5) Switching programs
When you need to do something to
switch programs on the laptop, turn the projector off! Imagine
the speaker is trying to make a point and most people are admiring your
wallpaper, talking amongst themselves how nice the place is! There is a
remote control for you to use if you need to. (NB. On the projector you need
to press the on/off button twice to turn it off)
6) Remain in your seat
Remain in your seat until you
know that you have finished all that you need to do (or at least when you
know there is a long time that you don’t need to control the laptop, like
when the DVD has started) This way less distraction is caused.
You may think that it seems a lot
more work than you thought --- well it is! It makes a huge difference if the
technical part is there to help the meeting runs smoothly. I was once told
about John Stott who came to preach in Newcastle.
During the meeting the microphone failed, and in that meeting it didn’t
matter how good his preaching was because nobody
could hear him! Similarly your work can help the congregation to concentrate
on worship the Lord or listening to His word. It makes a difference. Happy
serving!
